Da Plane! Da Plane!

One of the fun things we like about the location of our house is that it is close to the West Houston airport.  This airport is for smaller aircraft and, according to the website, averages 300 aircraft operations per day.

This is a photo of the West Houston airport.  I did not take this picture.

I spent a majority of my teenage years living in Richfield, where the commercial airline traffic was LOUD, as huge planes were landing at MSP Int'l airport.  It was so loud, that the house would shake, and if you were having a conversation, you would have to stop talking until the plane went by.  This is not the type of experience we have here.

What I like about where we live, is that the smaller airplanes that use this airport have an air traffic pattern that requires them to make a U-turn over our house in order to get ready to land at the airport.  Our family room has three large picture windows that are high up in the vaulted ceiling, and when the planes are turning to start their approach, you can see the planes quite closely.  They aren't noisy or irritating.

Here are some fun pics of various planes turning over our house.  I took these sitting from my patio.  Notice how low/close they are!

Look at all the birds in the background!

okay, this is a dragonfly.  They were flying in the backyard when I was taking plane pics.

Dragonfly pic #2.  Sort of looks like a plane, doesn't it?

Again, another bird photo-bombing my shot.  As you can see, the bird is much higher than the plane

You can actually see the pilots sometimes!

I really would like to photograph some of the military bombers that we get to see sometimes that fly over the house.  I am wondering if they will be out on the 4th of July.  I will be ready with camera in hand that day!!!
